PANDA FEATURING HAKKA DIALECT

Panda Featuring Hakka Dialect
This panda symbolises the traditional Hakka culture and ethnic characteristics, representing the linguistic heritage of the Hakka community in the New Territories. Hakka dialect is one of the items on the Intangible Cultural Heritage Inventory of Hong Kong. The Han Hakka groups are mainly distributed in Guangdong, Jiangxi, Fujian, Taiwan and Malaysia, and use Hakka as the main language of daily communication.  Hakka dialect reflects a history of migration and settlement, with most Hakka communities in the New Territories migrated to Hong Kong in the early Qing dynasty after the abolition of the Evacuation Order. Today, some Hakka villagers still speak the Hakka dialect, and many traditional rituals are also conducted in the Hakka dialect, reflecting their respect and inheritance of traditional ways of life.
