PANDA FEATURING TIN KUNG YUK WONG TAI TAI (JADE EMPEROR) FESTIVAL

Panda Featuring Tin Kung Yuk Wong Tai Tai (Jade Emperor) Festival
The pattern and colour on the body of this panda symbolises the traditional religious rituals for the Jade Emperor Festival, showing respect for traditional folk beliefs and the role of religious ceremonies in building community cohesion. The Jade Emperor's Birthday, also known as "Tian Gong Dan," is one of the items on  the Intangible Cultural Heritage Inventory of Hong Kong, and is an important folk belief in Hong Kong. The Jade Emperor is one of the highest deities in Taoism, and thus, every year on the ninth day of the first lunar month, a worship ceremony is held at the Tin Hau Temple in Lok Fu to celebrate his birthday. Activities include worship, scripture chanting, ceremonies and offerings, with the chanting led by Taoist priests, accompanied by Taoist music to pray for the Jade Emperor’s blessings and to eliminate disasters.
